Privacy policy
Craig is a Chrome extension that shows scam warning signs for the Craigslist listing you are viewing. It checks listings inside your browser. Craig has no servers, accounts, or analytics, and the Craig developer never receives your data.
What Craig reads
When you click the Craig toolbar icon on a single Craigslist listing, or turn on automatic checks, Craig reads that listing: its title, description, price, bedroom count, address or ZIP code, the contact details shown in the post, and the addresses of its photos. Craig does not read other websites, other tabs, or your browsing history.
The listing is analyzed by an engine bundled inside the extension. The listing's text never leaves your browser and is not saved after the result is shown.
Optional photo checks
Photo checks are off unless you add your own Google Cloud Vision API key in Craig's settings.
With a key, Craig sends the public addresses of the listing's photos (from
images.craigslist.org) to Google Cloud Vision, along with your key, to look for
reused real-estate photos, stock photos, and agency watermarks. Nothing else is sent: not the
listing's text, not your contact details, and not the pages you visit.
Google processes these requests under your Google Cloud account and Google's terms, and bills your project. Without a key, Craig makes no network requests of its own.
When a photo appears to match an image on another website, the result panel shows that image so you can compare them. Your browser loads it from the website Google found, as it would any image on a web page.
What Craig stores
Craig keeps the following in your browser's extension storage, on your device only:
- your settings and any rules you edit
- your Google Cloud Vision API key, if you add one
- a count of photo checks used this month
- Google's results for photos checked in the last 24 hours, so a repeat check doesn't cost you again; they expire after 24 hours
You can remove your key at any time with Remove key in Craig's settings. Uninstalling Craig deletes everything it stored.
What Craig does not do
- It does not sell or transfer your data to anyone.
- It does not use your data for anything other than showing warning signs for the listing you check.
- It does not use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
- It has no accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking, and it runs no code from outside the extension.
Craig's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
If Craig's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and its effective date changed before the new version of the extension is published.
